2018 | On the 1st of January, Prof. Dr. Sven Ingebrandt was named University Professor the new chair of Micro- and Nanosystems. He receives a co-professorship alongside Prof. Wilfried Mokwa. |
2015 | Dr.-Ing. Uwe Schnakenberg is appointed as apl. Professor. |
2014 | On the 1st of August, Professor Wilfried Mokwa takes office as the new dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of RWTH Aachen University. |
2006 | On the 25th of August 2006, Dr. Uwe Schnakenberg announces his appointment as Academic Director. |
2002 | Opening of the Central Lab for Micro- and Nanotechnology at the Walter-Schottky-Haus. |
1996 |
On the 17th of June 1996, Dr. Wilfried Mokwa is named University Professor of Materials in Electrical Engineering as the successor to Karl-August Hempel at the Chair of Materials in Electrical Engineering 1. Research and teaching in the field of microsystem technology are established at RWTH during Professor Wilfried Mokwa's directorship. |
1992 | On the 1st of April 1992, Dr. Rainer Waser named University Professor of Materials in Electrical Engineering as the successor to Gottfried Arlt at the Chair of Materials in Electrical Engineering II. |
1977 | The new electrical engineering building ("Walter-Schottky-Haus“) is completed. Alongside other institutes, the Department of Materials in Electrical Engineering and its corresponding chairs I of Prof. Hempel and II of Prof. Arlt move to Sommerfeldstraße. The previous location of the institute was in Kopernikusstraße. |
1972 | The appointment process for the second chair is completed. The appointment goes to Dr. Gottfried Arlt who is named full professor and director of the department. |
1970 |
After being named full professor and director of the department, the physicist Dr. Karl August Hempel becomes the successor to Henricus P.J. Wijn on the 1st of September 1970. It was decided to create an additional chair of Materials in Electrical Engineering due to technical needs, which is why IWE2 was founded. Special treatment of dielectric materials was missing aside of the treatment of magnetic and semiconductor materials. |
1963 | On the 1st of April 1963, Dr. Henricus P.J. Wijn becomes the successor to Prof. Dr. Martin Kersten, who was appointed president of the Natural Metrology Institute of Germany, PTB. |
1955 | On the 1st of September 1955, the Chair and Department of Materials in Electrical Engineering is found. The physicist Dr. Martin Kersten is named full professor and director of the department. |
