Karl August Hempel becomes the successor to Henricus P.J. Wijn. (named full professor and director of the department)
It was decided to create an additional chair of Materials in Electrical Engineering due to technical needs. Special treatment of dielectric materials was missing aside of the treatment of magnetic and semiconductor materials.
The appointment process for the second chair is completed. The appointment goes to Gottfried Arlt (named full professor and director of the department).
New electrical engineering building ("Walter-Schottky-Haus“) is completed. Alongside other institutes, the Department of Materials in Electrical Engineering and its corresponding chairs I (Hempel) and II (Arlt) move to Sommerfeldstraße. (previously: Kopernikusstraße)
