|Appointment of Professor Sven Ingebrandt|
Professor Sven Ingebrandt is appointed to the Chair of Micro- and Nanosystems at RWTH Aachen. After 9 months as co-professor he will succeed Professor Wilfried Mokwa as director of IWE 1.
Prof. Ingebrandt brings the project SensUs 2018 to IWE 1, which is funded by the EIT Health program. RWTH Aachen University becomes a 'full partner' in this project. It aims at a practical training of master students in the field of 'biosensing' for biomedical applications.
|Dipti Rani Successfully Defends her PhD Thesis|
|Dipti Rani, a former doctoral students of the working group of Professor Sven Ingebrandt at the University of Applied Science of Kaiserslautern in Zweibrücken, defends her dissertation "Label-free detection of biomolecules using silicon nanowire ion-sensitive field-effect transistor devices" at Justus-Liebig University Giessen. Dr. Vivek Pachauri served as practical advisor in her thesis work.|

|Miriam Schwartz (née Freyler), a former doctoral students of the working group of Professor Sven Ingebrandt at the University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern in Zweibrücken, Germany, defended her dissertation ‚Detection of biomolecules using multivariant data analysis from silicon nanowire field-effect transistor arrays‘ in the field of biomedical sciences at Hasselt University. Belgium. Since the beginning of 2015, she has been working at RAM Group DE GmbH, based at Zweibrücken University Campus, where she uses her experience to develop novel medical test systems in the fight against cancer and other diseases. The project managers of the three partner institutions University of Kaiserslautern, Lille University and ESPCI Paris, France, approved the new project plan after transferring the subproject to RWTH Aachen University.|

|The BMBF-funded, collaborative project "Single-point sensor system for non-invasive, dynamic measurement of cardiac function" SINDynamik (KMU-innovativ: Medizintechnik, 13GW0180B) officially launches. |Dr. Xuan Thang Vu Becomes the New Group Leader at IWE 1|
Dr. Xuan Thang Vu is hired as the new group leader and subsequent academic advisor at IWE 1. He moved from the Department of Physics of the RWTH Aachen to IWE 1. He did his doctorate at the Forschungszentrum Jülich in the former working group of Professor Sven Ingebrandt from 2006 to 2011 and has already worked in the research group Ingebrandt in Zweibrücken from 2011 to 2013.
